In the cage there....that's Gib Gib. He died yesterday. We loved him very much. It is hard to believe that a person can get attached to a little fur ball only two inches long. He was funny, he had character, he was very sweet. Our daughter was, of course, very sad. She cried herself to sleep last night. And even though we rushed out to the pet store to buy her a new gerbil, "Smokey", just does not replace "Gib Gib". I was surprisingly sad too. I feel a sense of loss. "Over a Gerbil?!" I have to ask my self....
It is a lesson in life I guess. That feeling of loss, the feeling that nothing is forever, and the feeling that at any given moment, those things and people we cherish and love can be swiftly taken away from us. What a strong reminder to us to really appreciate all the blessings we have in our lives. Stay alert and present in your gratitude every moment of the day!
Whether it is the loss of a job, a house, a loved one, or a pet. No one is exempt from the swiftness with which life can change and twist. Some changes can be good and exciting. Some changes can be unwelcomed or unexpected. These types of changes can cause us to withdrawal, feel uncertain, cause us to question our beliefs, cause us to feel depressed.
Loss is an unavoidable part of life, I suppose. Reach out to a friend, go to a funny movie, pray, go to your worship service, play some music, exercise, and remember ..... time heals.
